Night Guards

An Occlusal splint, commonly known as a night guard, is a specially molded hard plastic device designed to fit over the upper teeth. Its purpose is to safeguard natural teeth, crowns, and implants from the effects of clenching and grinding habits, also known as Bruxism. Additionally, it aims to alleviate muscle tension and alleviate painful joint symptoms associated with such habits.

Bruxism refers to the excessive clenching or grinding of teeth, surpassing normal chewing movements. This behavior can lead to substantial wear on the teeth and potentially cause permanent damage to both the teeth and the jaw joints.

The splint is individually crafted based on models of your teeth, utilizing a chewing simulator. Dr Valsan take measurements using digital scanner and our dental technicians custom make the splint to fit your teeth. The splint helps prevent individual tooth wear and reduces destructive forces on the jaw joint, ligaments, and cartilage.

Without the use of a splint, the enamel surfaces of teeth can rapidly wear down, exposing the soft internal part of the tooth, which is susceptible to quick deterioration. If allowed to wear down bacteria may penetrate through to the nerve, potentially necessitating a Root Canal. Restorative measures such as Crowns or Veneers may be required to address the damage. Moreover, Crowns and implants are left vulnerable to excessive forces that could result in chipping or loosening.
